As cocoa was hard to find in Turin during the Napoleonic continental blockade, chocolatiers filled the gap by creating a new recipe requiring less cocoa due to the combination of local finely ground hazelnuts and sugar. Gianduja was named after a character typically representing the city of Turin in the Italian Commedia dell'arte.
Nowadays, Affaires Pâtissières' Gianduja perfectly flavours homemade desserts and delicacies. Just by the fact it melts as soon as it hits the tongue, it is meant to be one's new weakness !
